Pelvic floor PT is the evaluation and treatment of the muscles, bones and joints, connective tissues, and nerves in and around the pelvis. This area of specialty extends from the thoracic spine and diaphragm to feet and ankles, and of course includes the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor supports the abdominal and pelvic organs (bladder, rectum, and uterus), helps with bladder and bowel control, contributes to posture and breathing mechanics, has a sexual function, and also supports the low back.

I believe collaborative, interdisciplinary care is the best treatment approach, and love to partner with your medical team to provide the best healthcare for you. If you have a referral from a physician, chiropractor, physician assistant, or APRN I am happy upload it into your chart. If not, I will still be able to see you for your initial evaluation. The state of Texas is a direct-access state, meaning you do not need a referral to seek out physical therapy services. However, you are required to have a referral within 10 business days of your initial evaluation if you wish to to continue treatment beyond 10 business days.

After scheduling your first appointment, you will have the opportunity to complete your intake forms. This is a way for you to share your story and health history with your therapist, and gives her information that enables her to best prepare for your initial assessment. Once you arrive at the clinic, you will be taken to a private treatment room, where we will discuss in detail your health history, intake forms, current difficulties, and goals for pelvic PT. After this your therapist will perform a comprehensive exam based on your individual case. By compiling all of the information gathered, your therapist will recommend a treatment plan and make appropriate referrals if necessary to best facilitate your healing journey.

We strongly recommend coming to your session if you are on your period. We believe hormones play a role in symptoms, and most of our patients have an increase in the symptoms they are coming to PT for while on their period. We can help with these symptoms, and teach you how to better manage them in the future.

Ideally, we like to see postpartum patients at about 2 weeks postpartum to begin retraining the core and treating any pain. Unless patients are in severe pain, we pause until 6 weeks to resume postpartum rehab. At this point we begin treating more pelvic health symptoms like pain with intercourse, urinary urgency or leakage, constipation, and prolapse.

Common symptoms we treat men for include:
Urinary urgency, frequency, and hesitancy
Pain in the lower abdomen or pelvic region (groin, hips, low back, anus or tailbone)
Constipation or difficulty with bowel movements
Changes in sexual function including premature ejaculation or erectile dysfunction and/or pain related to sexual function
