5 Things To Prioritize On Long Travel Days

Days filled with long hours of traveling can be hard on your body— I just had a long travel day myself and here’s 5 things I prioritized to help my body with a 9 hour flight (also applicable to long car rides).

  1. Hydrate — for many reasons. Shoot for 60-80 ounces. Your bladder, GI system, brain, muscles, lymphatic system, and basically everything else in the body LOVES water.

  2. Move when you can— get a few extra steps in at the airport or walk around a bit when you stop for road trips. This helps the lymphatic system keep things moving & helps keep your muscles and joints happy.

  3. Wear loose clothing— another one for for the lovely lymphatic system. Since you’re going to be sitting most of the day, opt for loose clothing rather than tight.

  4. Pack fiber filled snacks— if you know me, you know I am a snack queen. I try to take filling, fiber filled snacks like nuts, fruits, bars, etc. This helps me avoid less nutritious, convenient foods in the airports/gas stations.

  5. Rest when you arrive— rather than diving right into activities, let your body catch up for a minute before diving right into all the things. Prioritizing naps, downtime, and a good night’s rest after a long day of travel  will make the whole trip a little easier on your body.

Not traveling soon? All of these are great to add into your day to day life, too. Rest, hydration, fiber, movement, and clothing your body feels good in is never a bad idea.

Unable to travel because your bladder, bowels, or joints are giving you grief? I’d love to help!
